The 29 Ekegusii bibles we ordered on behalf of Pastor Thomas Machogu's church were delivered on Tuesday, May 1st. He distributed them on Sunday the 6th.

He has sent some photos of the congregation and of the distribution of the new bibles. The photo accompanying this article shows a couple of girls looking at their new bible. We'll show more photos from Kisii during our Sunday morning service on the 13th.

Aquam Vivam is Latin for "Living Water" (John 4:10-14). It's a weekly service at Light of Christ led by our rector, Fr. Scott. The service itself is set in the framework of Evening Prayer, Rite II, but it's also much more than that. In the course of the service we worship, pray, study scripture, intercede and fellowship.

So far, we've learned that worship is more than liturgy, music or study; it's about our relationship with the Almighty. We can never hope to bridge the immense distance between a perfect, just and righteous God and our fallen, imperfect selves. But, God is also loving and merciful, and wants a relationship with us, so much so that he desires to dwell with us and in us.

Join us and learn how God has bridged the formerly unbridgeable chasm between us, and how he lovingly interacts with his people.

Light of Christ has always been more than a church. It began, and survives, as a family. Just like in any family, people have moved away, heard God's calling in another direction, or joined another congregation. Nevertheless, we're still family, brothers and sisters in Christ.

This reunion (hopefully the first of an annual event) will be an opportunity to spend a Sunday in worship, prayer and fellowship with people who still feel a special kinship for everyone who's been a part of the Light of Christ family and shared in some way the church's unique history.

We will have our regular Sunday Morning Eucharistic service at Light of Christ at 10:30. After church there will be a cookout and picnic at Bells Ferry Park, just a short drive from the church. We hope you'll join us.

We're thrilled at the return of David Piper, founder of New Day World Ministries, to Light of Christ. Not only is David an amazing evangelist, but his testimony shouldn't be missed. Drug addiction, prison, rescue by Jesus and anointing for powerful ministry are all part of David's story, but he never forgets to give the glory to God. His bold yet compassionate style can serve as an example to anyone called by God to reach out to a corrupt and dying world.

David will be with us at 7PM on Friday, June 22nd; 7PM Saturday, June 23rd;, and also on Sunday morning, the 24th, at 10:30.

Light of Christ was very blessed to hear Chris Eckartz's first sermon on Sunday, April 29th. Carefully using scripture as his authority, Chris impressed everyone with his clear, bible-based assertions, and motivated the church to make sure we don't stray away from what God has called us and equipped us to do.

Chris is a senior at Hillgrove High School. His parents, Scott and Becky, are founding members of Light of Christ

We're hoping to hear again from Chris in the future, as well as from other members of The Jesus Freaks, Light of Christ's youth group.

In our efforts to be good stewards of the facilities and resources God has so graciously provided for us, Saturday, July 14th has been designated as a church-wide work day. We'll be performing maintenance, cleaning and painting. All of these tasks could be done by hired contractors, but the church's leadership has promised the parish that they will wisely manage the church's finances and other resources. 

Bill Collins is in charge of the work day. Please sign up on the sheet next to the front door, or notify Bill that you'll be there. Even if you can only spend an hour or two, we'll take it.

The next Sure Foundation session is scheduled for Saturday, August 25th. Unlike previous sessions which have included Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon classes, this session will be conducted all day on Saturday only, running from 8:00AM until early evening, with meal and rest breaks throughout.

The theme of Session 5 will be ministry to young families, youth and children.

With deep sorrow we report that Pastor Charles Osborne went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, September 17.  We ask for your prayers for his wife Myra and for his friends and his flock at Light of Christ Church as we mourn this loss.  A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 2 at Light of Christ Anglican Church.

Grief is defined as "keen mental suffering or distress over affliction or loss; sharp sorrow; painful regret." Grief is a normal human emotion, and can occur not only when we're mourning the loss of a loved one, but also when we've lost a job or had an important relationship taken away. There are stages of grief management, but sometimes a person can get caught in a place of grief from which he or she just can't seem to move on.

The Fields will be drawing on their insight and experience to address the spiritual dynamics of profound loss. Their approach is not about the stages of grief, but about healing the spirit so we can move past our loss and enter a place of joy in Jesus Christ.

There will be Holy Communion at this service, and it will be an important part of the healing process.

Roger Fields will be sharing with us a vision he received from the Lord, which he calls "On the Golden Altar." The Holy Spirit speaks to Roger in profound, sometimes provocative ways. Roger's gentle attitude and compassion for others bespeak a man with many years hearing the voice of God. This teaching is sure to instructive and inspiring.

Roger's teaching will take the place of the 19th's regular Bible study. 

We will be having our Chistmas Eve service at 5:30, Saturday, 24 December. Holy Communion will be included.

Because Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, and because we believe that spending time with family is taught in the Bible and is vitally important to the health of our parish, there will be no services on Sunday, 25 December.

You're invited to attend this special service which celebrates the events surrounding our Lord's First Advent. There was be Scripture readings and traditional Christmas carols, followed by Holy Communion. 

We're very blessed to have our former bishop, Frank Lyons worshiping with us on Sunday the 23rd. The entire parish still has warm place in its heart for the man who offered Light of Christ and other new churches early episcopal oversight as they sought to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Taking us on drastically increased his work load, and he took a lot of heat for his trouble, but he remained faithful to all of us until we could join the new Anglican Diocese of the South.

Among other things, Bp. Frank will be speaking about his work in Bolivia, where he continues to serve as a missionary. We'll be taking up a special offering to help his ministry.

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It's also known as Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras, which has given some people the mistaken impression that the day is dedicated to making sure one has sins for which to repent during Lent.

Actually, the word "shrove" comes from an archaic English word. "To shrive" means "to confess" our sins.

Although the day has a reputation for rowdiness, we at Light of Christ are going to confine ourselves to fun fellowship and eating syrupy pancakes before we begin the 40 days of Lent. 

Pastor Thomas Machogu leads a Bible Study in west Kenya, near Lake Victoria (Nyanza province). We have agreed to share our prayer requests via email and have already had several exchanges.

Here are Pastor Thomas' prayer requests:

• Robert is praying that his wife would receive Christ
• Robert is also praying for his ailing father, who suffers from diabetes.
• Mary is praying for her husband, who was recently injured in a road accident. She's also praying for the provision to pay the hospital bill.
• There is a severe famine and drought in the area. They are all imploring God for rain. Food is short and people are starving. They need money for food.

Pastor Thomas tells me that after spending all his life in his parents' church, where the necessity of salvation through Jesus Christ was never mentioned, a friend of his from Mombasa visited Thomas and witnessed to him. Thomas was saved, and spent time studying the faith and witnessing to people in the surrounding villages.

In 2007 Pastor Thomas started a Bible Study in his home, beginning with 13 adults and their families. The group grew, and recently they moved outside to conduct their Wednesday and Sunday worship and Bible study under some shade trees. The group now consists of 18 adults and 17 children. Of that number seven of the chuildren are orphans between the ages of five and 12. Another prayer request is for some sort of shade or shelter to protect the group while they're meeting outside.

Pastor Thomas is married to Ann Nyangarisa, and they have two children: Milcent, aged five; and Bivon, aged three. 

Let us all begin the penitential season of Lent by submitting and rededicating ourselves to the Lord.

Jamie and Emily Virkler will lead the praise and worship, and Fr. Scott will minister and teach on hearing the Holy Spirit.

We continue to move forward, being blessed by God's faithfulness, as we obediently learn our identity in the Kingdom of God. All members of Light of Christ are welcome to attend and participate.

Fr. Scott has already sent out the questions and responsees from our first meeting.. In this second meeting we'll narrow our focus a little, and by the conclusion of the meeting we should have four to seven statements we can all agree on which help to define our identity in the Lord.

As before there will be a lunch prior to the meeting. 

CJ has been a friend to Light of Christ for a long time, and has ministered in our church on several occasions.

CJ has received a special word for Glory Night. Don't miss her anointing!

We're very blessed to have Sandy Cox at our July 2nd Glory Night. Sandy is a long time friend of Light of Christ. She combines powerful prophetic gifts with a very gentle, sweet spirit. It's just a joy to see her minister. She never fails to build up and nurture the body of Christ.
