Have a Safe and Blessed Independence Day
The founders of our nation understood that their future, and the success of their struggle for freedom, rested with God. The Pine Tree Flag was flown by the first six ships of what would later become the United States Navy. General George Washington, as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, authorized the commissioning of six cruisers in October 1775 to be deployed against the Royal Navy in Boston Bay. The words, "An Appeal to Heaven" were from a resolution by the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts, which stated in part, "Appealing to heaven for the justice of our cause, we determine to die or be free."
The struggle America faces today is just as critical to the future of our children as the Revolution was to the men and women who resisted the smug tyranny of the British. No doubt those Christians then took inspiration from 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
